After a lot of years away, cult favourite Putty Squad is back on our screens, thanks to System 3. This remake of the sidescrolling, platform classic is bound to get veteran gamers and newcomers alike squishy with delight. We won’t attempt to over-complicate things here: Putty Squad is about hopping around levels, bopping enemies out of the picture until you hit the end of a level. Remember when that’s all there was to gaming? As anyone who grew up on 8-bit or 16-bit consoles will tell you, there’s plenty of fun to be had from the simple pleasures of a well-timed leap in a well-designed level. Helping you along your way are a number of Putty abilities. Putty can stretch in any direction; lie flat to avoid enemies; absorb items to use at a later date; upgrade attacks to include the likes of electric prods and putty darts and inflate to rise up to hard-to-reach spots. Putty Squad has, of course, been touched up since its days on the likes of the SNES, Mega Drive and Amiga. The game has been redrawn, with flashy graphics at three times the fidelity of past incarnations. Putty Squad could be just the simple, addictive pleasure to help you unwind and get away from the complexities of modern life.
